レコーディングセッション2002

Here it is!!

It really was a great fun session at Avatar studio. Especially with so many wonderful guest artists this year. Here is a little report . The session started on April 15th at Avatar studio in New York City. The first guest was Gary Burton on Vibraphone. The Pix#1 is Gary and I , and our favorite engineer Joe Ferla listening to the playback.

Michael Brecker came in that same afternoon after Gary left for Boston. He Played one tune with the Trio and One duet tune with me which I wrote for Michael for this session. The tune is called "Where Do We Go From Here?" He played a couple tunes with my Trio last year in Japan and we both felt something. We felt something even stronger at this session, too. I certainly hope we will be able to create more music together. PIX#2 is with my brother Penn after the recording.
The 2nd day of Recording started out doing my solo works. And here is someone I would like to introduce. He is not only a great tuner and technitian from YAMAHA, also is a great guy to hang with. His Name is Max Michimoto and he came to New York City last July, and we have become quite good friends. He was there at the studio all the time to make sure that YAMAHA CF-IIIS they provided for me is in the best condition. Pix#3 is Max.

The guest on the second recording day was Mr.Jon Hendricks whom I used to play for when I was still a student at Berklee College of Music. I am so greatful to have him perform on thios album, but also he was so nice to accept my request of being on this album at once when I called him. It's impossible to believe he is 81 years old this year. Pix#4. He also wrote the funniest lyrics on my tune called "Lazy Uncle". Pix#5 is the photo of him singing that Lyrics to me for the first time.

The Third day of Recording was strictly The TRIO. Both Clarence Penn & James Genus are so important people in my life not only as a musician but also as a great friend. I can not possibly make the kind of music I am playing now without them. We don't get together and play as much as we would like to because each one of us is very busy doing other projects as well. But when we get together, something happens. I am sure you coudl tell the energy among us by looking at the gleam in our eyes on Pix#6.

Finally, I went down to Florida to record with Mr.Chick Corea. We played on 2 wonderful Concert Grands Pianos that Chick has. The Yamaha CF-IIIS, and The Bosendorfer Imperial. Pix#7, from left to right, Bob the engineer, Chick, me, and Chick's Assistant Kirby who organized everything for this session to happen. Another Photo Pix#8 is at a great Italian restaurant where we had a lunch.

After all of these recording sessions, I went back to Avatar studio in New York with Joe Ferla to mix this album. Joe did an incredible job mixing it. And we handed over to Mr. Greg Calbi to master it, where of course Greg put another finest coating on top of Joe's great art. I hope you'll enjoy the music.
